Hoodies were once a layer worn almost exclusively for athletic activities, but they are now considered a key pillar of a capsule wardrobe – thanks, in no small part, to the casual direction mainstream style has taken since Covid. Designer takes, like those that featured in multiple looks at Miu Miu autumn/winter 2023, have been catalysts for the rise of hoodies as a fashion statement (rather than a purely practical decision), and every major label stocks at least one version that’s made in line with their house codes.
Bottega Veneta, for example, has a relaxed-fit, light grey melange style crafted from 100 per cent cashmere, while The Row has introduced several styles rendered in heavy French cotton terry, including a cherry-red hoodie and a stormy blue half-zip sweatshirt that are struggling to stay in stock. For heavily branded takes, look to Balenciaga, where you’ll find hoodies emblazoned with varsity logos and motifs. Scroll on for Vogue’s edit of hoodies to shop for spring.
