For someone as skin-obsessed as Bobbi Brown, launching foundation as her first complexion product might come as a surprise to some. Then again, in 2022, foundation was the preferred skin-evening solution. Hydrating, glow-boosting, and described as a “tinted moisture balm,” What The Foundation (described below as WTF) reimagined what the formula could look and feel like. And now, three years later, the brand’s latest, Just Enough Tinted Moisturizer, available today, is doing the same.
“The rich, balmy texture of WTF formulation isn’t for everyone,” Brown tells Vogue, whereas her take on the tinted moisturiser is more universal. “It offers lighter moisture, lighter coverage, and a lighter finish – yet is still effective at covering redness and evening out the complexion on all skin types. With the popularity of tinted moisturisers at an all-time high – many of my friends and colleagues use these instead of foundation at all – Brown is clearly giving the people what they want. She knew her collection of effortless cosmetics (designed to help people feel like their best selves) needed something aligned with the everyday person, and her Roadies. “The beauty customer right now is very knowledgeable and sophisticated,” says Brown. “She wants clean, easy-to-use products that take minutes to apply, yet still gives you just the right combination of coverage and hydration that makes the skin feel as good as it looks.”
The answer, she continues, was a tinted moisturiser: the quickest way to feel put together without looking like you’ve done anything. It’s the kind of product you’ll actually want to apply with your fingers – though the brand’s Skin Brush works great as well. As you massage it in, it blends undetectably in a matter of seconds. The texture is that of a traditional face cream – though on the lighter end of the spectrum – retaining many of the moisturising properties of its skin-care adjacent. Sodium hyaluronate (a derivative of hyaluronic acid) is the star ingredient paired with glycerin and vitamin E to help skin retain moisture, minimise fine lines and quell dryness.
Available in 16 shades (aligned to its corresponding foundation), once blended, the finish is pretty natural with just a bit of natural radiance. Those who prefer a true skin-like visage will love it, while those more keen to a glowy finish can build to that level. Texture aside, what I love most is the coverage. Light-to-medium in finish, the formula is just pigmented enough to veil redness, dark spots, and blemishes with minimal product – though you can add a second layer for additional coverage or spot correct to your liking. These benefits make it optimal for those with mature skin. “It enhances the skin without looking like you’re wearing anything,” she says. As the old saying goes,“it’s simply your skin, but better.”
Think of this as the first step in your make-up routine – just remember to apply moisturiser and SPF before first. I’ve been testing this for the last few weeks, and I’ve been completely taken by the formula.
