Hello, British Vogue.
I'm Bella Ramsey, welcome to my kitchen.
It's definitely not actually my kitchen.
Now, we are gonna be making garlic mushrooms on toast,
but we're also making the bread.
Oh, yeah. [light ambient music]
We have some warm water.
How much is in there?
About 300 mil.
Some yeast.
I think I need about a table...
Tablespoon of this, maybe two.
I'm just gonna chuck a bit more in for good measure.
And I'm gonna get some soy sauce.
That's balsamic vinegar. [crew member chuckling]
I'm gonna get this here soy sauce.
What would you call this, a flagon?
Uh, I'm not gonna measure it, I'm just gonna...
Flour, that's the next ingredient.
Just look at that, premeasured and everything.
Honey and coconut yogurt.
We have our flour.
I don't know why I'm, like, transferring it all over.
I'm making a nice well, in the flour.
Just making a little nice home for all the liquid stuff.
I could do it, ah, I could do it bit by bit.
Nah, I'm just gonna do the whole thing.
Oh, that's a bad idea, bit by bit.
Now it's just gonna gently combine.
This might be lumpy, but that's fine
because it's bread and we can just knead it out.
I'm supposedly vegan, but I do now eat eggs.
I have a reason.
I'm just really shoving it all in now.
I'm allergic to peas.
And so, pea protein is like the staple protein source
for vegans, and I can't eat that,
and I just don't really get any protein otherwise.
So eggs are good for me.
So there's always eggs in my fridge.
Ah, my favorite part is the kneading,
which is coming right up.
I've got some flour.
Gently dust on the surface.
I'm not very gentle or graceful.
Ah, look how nice that looks though.
The secret to the perfect loaf of bread
is a good amount of kneading.
This is where it all happens.
And then you can, like, whack.
Oh, that wasn't much of a whack, wait.
You can like really like... [dough smacking]
Yeah!
There's like a running joke in my family
that if I'm making dinner, they're like, Oh, gosh,
what time are we gonna be eating?
We're still kneading.
I think that I can probably stop,
but you can do this test thing
where you like hold it up to the...
And if you can see light through it...
Like how much stuff I have on my hands.
If it's like translucent, then it's glutenous enough,
or you've done enough kneading basically.
But now, we can make the mushrooms
to add into the mushroom bread,
'cause bread without mushrooms
[ambient music stopping]
is just bread, and not mushroom bread.
[Bella chuckling] [crew member laughing]
That's just gonna hang out there.
I'm gonna wash this off my hands.
[bell dinging]
So we need a nice sharp knife, this is a beautiful knife.
I do tend to injure myself a lot cooking.
I have a little healing burn here.
Half an onion, by the way. [knife thumping]
Fast chopping.
These are probably chopped enough, aren't they?
Put them over here,
getting some butter for the pan.
And you know, put plenty in.
You only live once.
I never measure stuff up, when I'm cooking from home, ever,
which is not good when I'm baking
because baking is a science and cooking is an art, ooh.
I'm just gonna get some garlic.
Same with acting. [light piano music]
I don't tend to think about that, ever,
just sort of do it and that works out.
If I was to survive an apocalypse,
what mushroom would I have?
I've got a few answers for this.
On the one hand, portobello,
it's very robust, would keep me going for a long time.
Wooden spoon.
Give that a little stir.
If I could eat with any character I've played...
Lyanna Mormont was the first person who came to my mind,
which is the first character that I ever played.
She's a bit scary, I'd be intimidated by her.
She'd appreciate this.
This is a chestnut mushroom.
If I put it on my head, I'm a Clicker.
If Clickers had a signature mushroom dish,
it would probably be something that looks vaguely human.
They're so enraptured by their instincts
to infect the humans.
They've not got time for culinary delights.
Almost chopped my finger off there, that multitasking.
I'm quite good at Clicker noises.
[Bella throat clicking]
I would go around doing it to everyone
and they'd be like, How do you do that?
Teach me.
And I couldn't.
I've never put mushrooms in a pan like this before.
Most challenging part of playing Ellie, my American accent.
All the horse riding stuff and stunts
and that's like, that's my favorite part.
I could be Callie.
I'm making garlic mushrooms.
Welcome to my kitchen.
I am cooking with, like, so many onions.
I think this is nearly done.
I'm gonna add this to here now.
[pan clanging]
Drum solo. [Bella chuckling]
I think maybe I did too many mushrooms.
[Bella laughing]
Tin, dust it with flour.
I'm just gonna, oh, yeah. [bowl clanking]
[Crew Member] Oops. [Bella laughing]
[dough plopping]
Just like that.
You've got your mushroom, honey, and thyme bread.
Don't be too strict.
It will tell you when it's ready.

Welcome back [light ambient music]
to my remarkably magically cleaned kitchen.
The bread has been in for 40 minutes-ish.
Look at that delightful golden brown
little crust on the top.
That's gonna stay in there for just a little bit longer
while I make the mushroom mushrooms.
Get a chestnut and whatever this this is.
There's one that's like air,
has this air in the name.
I feel like that's probably that,
looks kind of airy. [Bella chuckling]
And some more fancy ones.
Let's freaking go.
What do I eat on set?
The caterers are normally fab.
And like, this season of Last of Us specifically,
there was always vegan chicken nuggets
just in the freezer for me.
This is a bit embarra-
Well, actually I'm not embarrassed.
I've been told that I should be embarrassed by this,
but I'm not.
I have a lot of, like, baby food, like kids' oat bars.
They're so good.
I've always got one in my bag.
I also eat the baby food pouches,
they're like fruit things that you like suck.
I've nearly chopped all these mushrooms now.
Now, [stove clicking]
here's some more lovely garlic.
Gonna just peel really fast, super, super speedy.
One more bit of garlic.
That's just gonna cook nicely in there for a little bit.
We're gonna put some pepper in, some salt.
Get the garlic cooking and then the magic happens.
[food sizzling]
Okay, the mushrooms are...
The garlic is burning, the mushrooms are cooking.
But now this is the magic, balsamic vinegar.
Just flipping, hmm, smash it all in.
Soy sauce, again, an undefined amount.
Just go with your heart.
I forgot the thyme.
Oh, yeah, that's good stuff.
Add some lemon juice.
Ooh, yeah.
Let this cook for like maybe another 10 seconds
and then whack up the heat, burn off all the liquid.
Oh, you know what I'll do in the meantime?
I'm gonna get this bread out. [bell dinging]
The mushrooms are cooked. [Bella sighing]
Look at that, delightful.
Here's some lovely sliced bread.
I do quite like a crust.
No, I'm gonna go for a middle part just for this.
Although...
No, just be decisive.
That bread, it's gonna go on there.
Now, I'm gonna put hummus on the bread.
[Bella whistling]
The mushrooms are going on.
Good stuff.
Should we taste it?
I'm quite hungry actually.
Mm, I'm in mushroom heaven.
How much of this am I allowed to eat right now?
Something that would go very well with this,
mushroom cupcakes. [music stopping]
Ready, steady, cook.

These lovely mushroomy cupcakes.
Look, here's a really good view of the mushrooms
inside the cupcakes.
Oh, the exciting part about these mushroom cupcakes.
It's the mushroom syrup,
which is like vanilla essence-y syrup,
but they're in there and that's also gonna go in the icing.
They're just gonna cool down nicely there
while I make some icing.
Icing sugar, coconut yogurt, and then, butter.
Butter, mushroom syrup, what more could you want?
I think icing is my favorite part of cake.
What I am most excited for?
I'm excited for people to see the later episodes
in particular.
It's fun for me when people are like,
Oh, what's gonna happen next week?
I'm like, You better wait, you'll find out.
And, but me knowing
that they're gonna be absolutely traumatized by it
and their therapists are gonna be getting a call.
Makes me, fills me with a bit of sick joy.
I'm gonna get the electric bad boy out.
Here we go. [appliance whirring]
Oh, yeah.
[whirring stopping] [bell dinging]
I think that's how you test it.
Do a little scoop, whack it on, while I...
Oh, that's a lot.
I could just leave it like that.
[Bella laughing]
And then, I'm just gonna...
Just gonna do this.
Spread it around, you know.
Ah, maybe I'll get a couple out.
Here's slightly less icing.
I'm gonna put some mushrooms on the cupcakes,
with these giant, like, tweezer things,
which I'm very excited about.
Now I feel like a surgeon or something.
Let me just quickly shove them on.
There we go.
Now I'm gonna try one, I'm really excited.
It's gonna go everywhere.
[Bell chuckling]
Mm, good stuff, do I have it on my nose?
[Bella chuckling]
