Various trends and silhouettes came out of the fashion week street style portfolio last season, but there was one styling trick that cropped up again and again, and you’ll be happy to know that you can recreate it with pieces already sitting in your wardrobe.
The “pop of red” styling trick, which was championed by multiple attendees at the spring/summer shows, does exactly what it says on the tin: it’s adding one item – be it a top, knit, shoe or trouser – in a vibrant shade of scarlet, ruby or crimson to an otherwise simple outfit.

While red is often considered an extroverted colour, and one that symbolises emotions of anger, passion and danger, it’s been interesting to see how brands and fashion-lovers alike have been translating it through a minimalist lens. The Row, for instance – a brand historically known for its love of all things monochrome – has featured flashes of bright red amidst neutral tones in its recent collections, and Maximilian Davis has made arresting red shades a signature during his tenure at Ferragamo (his debut spring/summer 2023 show was presented against a red backdrop).
Accessories might be more appealing to those who don’t want to fully commit to bold clothing. Whether it’s a ruby shoulder bag worn with a white tank top or a classic trench coat paired with a patent burgundy slingback – if you want to make a statement this season, a “pop of red” seems to be the way to go.
