I have never seen Sienna Miller look anything but completely chill. Whether she’s schlepping about Glastonbury in a grey hoodie and shades, or wearing head-to-toe Chloé at Paris Fashion Week, London’s long-term resident cool girl somehow makes every outfit look considered without being overly thought-out. She doesn’t follow trends, they just sort of land on her. Which brings me neatly to the Gucci Horsebit ballet flats she slipped on for a recent bridal-themed breakfast hosted by her designer sister, Savannah. This time worn with a matching bag, ’70s-style boho blouse and… a really long denim shirt.

Brown shoes – both flats and trainers – have been a bit of a thing lately. “Whatever the shoe, it is more likely than not to be realised in brown,” Emma Spedding wrote earlier this year for British Vogue. “Look down at the feet flanking the front row and you’ll see a line of toffee, chocolate, coffee, tan and espresso-clad feet.” Suede, too, has been having a footwear moment, both on and off the runway, with flats and mules proving particularly popular. Miller’s Gucci flats, which look, characteristically, as though she just slid them on while leaving the house, tick all the boxes for spring.

This isn’t the first time that Miller has made her shoes the focal point of an outfit. Whether she’s singlehandedly making cowboy boots acceptable at festivals again, or wearing thigh-high lace-up Gucci boots instead of trousers, the actress has become a staunch proponent of the one-and-done shoe. Essentially, for Miller, shoes are never an afterthought, but rather the basis to build an outfit around. And where better to start than with some cute brown suede Gucci flats?
