If you have screenshots of bangs saved on your phone – because, let’s be real, what hair obsessive doesn’t? – there’s a good chance that snaps of Suki Waterhouse are in there somewhere. Long a fan of the carefree ’70s shag, her wispy face-framing curtain bangs modernise the retro look (which has always been the perfect addition to her groupie-inflected style).

At a Michael Kors dinner in New York this week, Waterhouse, whose daughter turns one this month, matched her boho lace dress with hair styled in choppy strands that effortlessly fell together to create a gappy fringe, but could also be pushed back into that signature curtain bang structure. The rest of her hair was cut into defined layers, turning a potentially awkward middling length into a style full of attitude, volume and body.

Working with LA based celebrity hairstylist Emily Blair – who affectionately referred to the star as “the dreamiest woman of all things”, Waterhouse has stuck to her signature tousled cut and beachy blonde colour for some time, only occasionally dabbling with more polished styling and flicked out rockstar ends.

Waterhouse told Vogue back in 2017 that she “learned some good [styling] basics” from her mum (“she’s just really naturally gorgeous”). Not to mention her friend Georgia May Jagger, whose mum taught the pair how to catwalk. “I’ve always been kind of fascinated by that long blonde hair and big red lips I’d see on Jerry and Georgia,” Suki shared at the time.

To master Suki’s style, “Blow dry your bangs away from the face, making sure the hair is damp to start to achieve the best look,” hairstylist Chris Appleton told Vogue. “Rollers are also a great option if you want to add additional bounce after using heat.” For optimal results, use them overnight and wake up with the perfect flippy curtain bangs.
