I’ve always been a fan of skincare tools, and any treatment that uses technology to improve the appearance of my skin. What began as an obsession with devices that catered to the eye area – I wanted to brighten my dark circles – then progressed to a devotion to LED face masks, which I had heard boost luminosity and help promote collagen production, for a firmer, plumper complexion. At 38, I now want to help slow the hands of time and keep my skin as youthful as I can for as long as possible, and for that I’m all about gadgets that promise to lift and firm.

That’s where microcurrent comes in. Employing a low-level electrical current, it stimulates the facial muscles, prompting them to contract and relax, which in turn helps to tone them. It’s a little like going to the gym, but for your face.

Which celebrities use Ziip?

One name that kept cropping up in my research was Ziip Halo, a microcurrent and nanocurrent device that A-listers, including Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie and Kim Kardashian, swear by. A great pre-red-carpet fix, it promises to instantly lift and improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin with consistent use over time. When I ask my Vogue colleagues, those who have tried it are also die-hard fans. Mia Portet, commerce producer at British Vogue, says the “instant sculpted look that you get after each Ziip facial is so rewarding – whether you want to depuff or you’re following a treatment plan for an overall lift over time, I’ve noticed a contoured appearance after every use.” That, combined with a celebrity seal of approval, had me chomping at the bit to trial it for a couple of months and see what might happen.

How does microcurrent and nanocurrent technology work?

Ziip Halo uses “dual waveform” technology, which combines microcurrent and nanocurrent technology. In fact, it uses 26 different waveforms which work on multiple layers of the skin to offer results from the first session. It’s the only tool on the market that offers these two types of current.

Microcurrent

Microcurrent is a higher frequency, low-level electrical current which stimulates the facial muscles to contract and relax, which tones them. Results last up to 72 hours.

Nanocurrent

A much lower electrical current, this mimics the electrical impulses that the brain sends to skin cells to support their work. This helps with collagen production, cellular regeneration and more, leading to overall rejuvenation of the skin. You’ll see best results after six weeks of consistent use.

Who is it suitable for?

  1. Those who want to achieve a skin firming and lifting effect, particularly around the jawline, nasolabial folds, cheekbones and eyebrow area.
  2. Anyone in search of an immediate lifting effect in preparation for a big occasion.
  3. Those wanting to stimulate collagen production in the skin.

The pros (and one con) of the Ziip device

  1. Results are immediately visible.
  2. The simple treatment takes only three minutes and is easy to incorporate into your existing skincare routine.
  3. It’s low effort.
  4. It promises to work immediately and over time, thanks to the combination of micro and nanocurrent.
  5. The microcurrent lifting effect lasts up to 72 hours, so maintaining it requires consistent use.

What are the side effects of Ziip Halo?

You are unlikely to experience any side effects when using the Ziip Halo, however, you might find your skin goes red or that you experience discomfort during the treatment – think a little twinge in certain areas of the face, or a slight vibrating sensation, but nothing untoward.

Is Ziip Halo better than NuFace?

Both are excellent devices – so it’s up to you to make your mind up. Read our review of the NuFace to learn more.
